  • Blogging soup for the soul.

    on

It seems as if, every month, I have a new favorite blog. During my college years, I gravitated towards celebrity gossip as a good escape. My first real-world years were spent reading news and political blogs, trying to make myself feel more intelligent than I actually am. And now, I’ve found that the only way to truly escape online is to dive into some good ole’ fashioned humor. Sarcasm is usually king in my book, and I’m a total sucker for anything involving self-deprecation.

In my quest for great content, I’ve tried to read countless sites, from first post to last, but have typically found that my interest wavers after only a few posts. I’ve added new sites to my RSS feed, only to find that I’m deleting them within a few weeks. I’ve scoured Twitter and Facebook, opened all friends’ status links proclaiming “SO FUNNY!!1!,” and still felt that I’ve come up short. I even tried writing a blog myself once, all about the awesome comedy that comes with working in the media world to see if my own brand of humor would suffice. Nothing. Failure. Insufficiency of awesome.

But a few months ago, I may have found my one true blog love. I laughed, I laughed, and then – get this – I laughed some more. Out loud. Not only did I laugh, I appreciated the tremendous amount of work put into the site. This blog is no ordinary blog – not simple stream-of-consciousness laid out online by someone whose brain is moderately organized and imaginative. It’s an amazing spin of narrative and artwork, brought to life by the awesomeness that is its author, Allie Brosh.

May I present, for your reading pleasure, Hyperbole and a Half.

I’m quite sure I’ve already lost any and all attention to the rest of this post as hopefully, you’re poring through every entry that Allie’s ever done, but if not, please also enjoy this interview with Allie herself.

    Happy Holidays!

  • SPOILER ALERT! Best Buy will fail

    Best Buy, Sears or Walmart?

Its that time of year again. People are opening their wallets, pulling out their credit cards and buying stuff.  We’ve been in peak buying season since the early Black Friday deals before Thanksgiving.  For many people, including myself, I tend to buy electronics this time of year and I have always turned to Best Buy for my purchases.  However, based on my most recent Best Buy experience, I wasn’t at all surprised to hear that the big box retailer reported 3rd quarter income fell 4.4% and its losing share to Walmart, Target and Online retailers.  Here’s why…

I used to love Best Buy.  It was my Chucky Cheese.  My bouncy castle.  A veritable adult weekend playground that put a huge smile on my face, made my heart race and gave me a feeling of euphoria every time I saw that big yellow sign and walked through its doors. Read more
